2010-2011 Chairman Introduction
DEPARTMENT OF WYOMING LADIES AUXILIARY
COMMUNITY SERVICE
2010-2011
Dear Auxiliary Sisters,
Hello. My name is Lori Norby. Our Department President, Sandy, has appointed me as your Community Service Director for the upcoming year. I am very excited about this program. I believe by helping in our communities, with our service men and women and our veterans, we truly define this program.
I have been associated with the VFW since 1996 and became a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 2004. I am eligible thru my father, who served in Vietnam, and now thru my husband who served in Operation Iraq Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Most of my families are members of the VFW or the Auxiliary. My grandfather, who served in World War II, my father, my husband, and my mother, who is Department of Wyoming President.
I personally have held positions of conductress, senior vice president, president of my Auxiliary, Senior Vice and President of District 3, guard, conductress and presently as your Chaplain for the Department of Wyoming. I have also been Buddy Poppy and Youth Activities chairman for our Department.
I would like to see all of the Auxiliaries get out and really promote Community Service within your own communities. I will be sending out information with my year-end report, and hope that all auxiliaries will try to do a little of all of these activities.
As some of you know, and to you that do not know, National is now including a Veterans history Project within Community Service. This project is an audio and videotaped oral history of war veterans. These can include WWII, Cold War, Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq. What a wonderful way to honor our Veterans and preserve the sacrifices they made for all of us.
I would like every Auxiliary to participate in Make a Difference Day; this is such an easy project with great reward. I know you all have the time to visit someone who is home bound or in a nursing/long term care facility, take them flowers, read to them or just take the time to say hi. Take the time to tell the Police Officers, Firemen and EMT’s in your community thank you. You can simply bake or buy some baked goods as a small token of thanks. And lets not forget our youth, make a difference by volunteering your time with them, and remind them about our Veterans, our Country, Our Freedom, and our Flag. There are endless things we can do to Make a Difference in Our Communities and Our World.
There are two other program ideas for your auxiliaries. Points of Light Foundation, who work within communities to help inspire, equip, and mobilize people to take action in changing the world.
There is also the Citizen corps that helps increase the opportunities for citizens to become an integrated part of protecting the homeland and to help support the first responders.
There are so many ways that we as Ladies Auxiliary members can improve our communities, help our Veterans, and insure that the next generation comes to appreciate Our Country, Our Flag and Most of All the Veterans who gave so much for all of us.
I am looking forward to working with all of you this year, and seeing the great things we can do for our community, Our Veterans and our Service men and women. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone.
Sincerely,
Lori Norby
